PROF. JOHN KURAKAR, GLOBAL COUNCIL TRUSTEE OF UNITED RELIGIONS INITIATIVE (U.R.I) HAS BEEN CHOSEN FOR PRAVASI BHARATHI AWARD (KERALA) 2016

PROF. JOHN KURAKAR, GLOBAL COUNCIL TRUSTEE OF UNITED RELIGIONS INITIATIVE (U.R.I) HAS BEEN CHOSEN FOR PRAVASI BHARATHI AWARD (KERALA) 2016
The Award selection committee has unanimously decided to honour Prof. John Kurakar, Global Council Trustee of United Religions Initiative.The Award is being given for Prof. John Kurakar for his social and cultural  contribution. He is a dedicated social worker and organizer  .
The Award will be given by Smriti Irani, minister of human resource development in the government of India on January 11 at 5 pm at VJT Hall, Palayam, and Thiruvananthapuram.The 'Pravasi Bharathiya Diwas' was declared by the government of India in the year 2002 for honoring NRIs all over the world, for their contribution to the economic development of our nation and recognizing their role in the welfare of the society.
January 9 is fixed for the Pravasi Bharathi Day celebrations every year by the central government. In Kerala, Pravasi Bharathi Day celebrations are organized every year since 2003, under the auspices of Pravasi Bharathi News Bullettin, NRI Co-ordination Council and regional committee comprising of social and political leaders.During these celebrations prominent NRIs and eminent personalities from political, cultural, business, health and humanitarian sectors, who excel in their respective areas, are also felicitated and honoured with awards. They also give financial assistance to Gulf returnees who are suffering from diseases and poverty.In the previous years the celebrations were held at Thiruvananthapuram in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 at Ernakulam in 2006, at Kannur in 2007 and at Kozhikode in 2008.As in the previous years, central and state ministers, MPs, MLAs, social leaders and prominent NRIs from different parts of the world will participate in this colourful function.
